The City Council of Candelaria convenes the public tender to build two pontoons on the fishing pier from Villa Mariana. With a capacity for 28 vessels to berth, the tender has a budget of 335,668 euros. The mayoress, Mari Brito, highlights the importance of the action given the fact that will respond to the demand of the fishing sector of the municipality, while guaranteeing the safety of the work and facilitating the loading and unloading of merchandise.
The Councilor for Fisheries Development, Maeva Tendero, recalls that the initial project underwent a major modification marked by the necessary updating of market prices, which justifies doubling the budget that was initially planned.
The Municipal Corporation will contribute 285,669 euros through municipal savings, with a subsidy of 50,000 euros granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands. It corresponds to the call for subsidies managed by the Tenerife Island Zone 4 Coastal Action Group Association (GAC-TF) for the application of Local Development Strategies, aimed at Increasing Employment and Territorial Cohesion charged to the Fund European Maritime and Fisheries (FEMP) for the period from 2014 to 2020.

Interested companies can submit offers until the 22nd at the Public Sector Contracting Platform, says the local government.
The designed project contemplates that the jetty be located parallel to the dock of the fishing pier, with a total length of 60 meters. Perpendicular to it there will be two jetties of 24 meters each, forming two docking jetties perpendicular to the dock for the docking of 28 vessels.
Various item improvements
But this is not the only improvement that is contemplated for the Villa Mariana pier. The Candelaria City Council, through its Department of Fisheries Development, undertook improvement actions, consisting of the repair and reinforcement of the walls of the Juan Ravina Fishing Center and the placement of a new fence and a new main gate. In the lower part of the pier, where the office of the Fishermen’s Guild is located, he proceeded to prepare the stones of the building with the aim of their conservation, as well as a hygiene measure to avoid possible pests, avoiding the presence of holes between the stones. In total, this work required an investment of 7,750 euros.
