SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, delivered today Monday to the representatives of the Cabildo de La Palma and the mayors of El Paso, Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane a document containing a proposal with three alternatives to the second section of the so-called Carretera de la Costa, the section that must connect to the one currently under construction on Las Coladas with the entrance to the urban area of Tazacorte.
With this initiative, the counselor seeks to promote the participation of the local institutions of La Palma in the definitive solution to this section of the road that the Government of Spain is carrying out in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands, and to assume the option that registers the most consensus between the within the Cabildo and the affected municipalities. For this, the four administrations involved will have to pronounce themselves with the option chosen from the three alternatives that they consider most viable and adjusted to the interests of the citizenry.
“In little more than two months, section one of this new road will be put into service and it would be good if before that date we already knew what the decision is, which is the alternative that the institutions and the Cabildo de La Palma prefer for the section two”, said counselor Franquis.
“To date we have always worked seeking consensus on the major issues that affect the Aridane Valley and the island, both to deal with the emergency resulting from the volcanic crisis and for reconstruction. This is the key element of how the crisis has been managed For this reason, it is positive that, in a matter of this nature, which logically has an indisputable social importance, the public administrations of the island, which are the closest to the citizens, have a position regarding the route the second tranche. What we want is for there to be a consensus around the definitive alternative and that, therefore, the Public Administrations can continue working as we have done to date, with the maximum agreement between all of us,” said the counselor.
The proposals that must be agreed upon and voted on now by the four consistories involved in the reconstruction of the island’s road infrastructure are the following: Option 1, execute the route initially proposed that would connect section 1 of the Coastal Highway with a new road to the northwest of the mountain of La Laguna that would end in Tazacorte; Option 2-3, it is about not attacking any new road and channeling the traffic that comes from the new Coastal Highway through the current LP-215 through the neighborhood of San Borondón, or in the direction of La Laguna to later connect with LP-21, and Option 4, is a newly built layout studied at the proposal of the platform for those affected by the coastal highway affected by the original layout. This alternative proposes a newly created section to the west of the San Borondón neighborhood up to the Tazacorte ring road.
“We are replacing a road that was the old LP-2, which was buried by lava, with a new road, which is the Coastal Highway for which, to date, we have acted after making all the decisions with consensus of all the local corporations. With this second section we want to do the same”, indicated Sebastián Franquis.
“We have carried out all the technical studies that we have been asked to do, we have shared them and now is the time for the town halls and the Island Council of La Palma to define the alternative that they believe is most convenient, that satisfies not only a mobility problem, but also that also better represents the interests of the citizenry based on the three alternatives that we have established,” he added.
The counselor positively valued the reception of this participation document by the president and vice president of the Cabildo and the mayors, and recalled that, in order not to waste time and efficiency in a work of this magnitude carried out by the Ministry, and declared as a work In an emergency situation, the plenary agreements of the four palmera corporations should be voted on and sent to the Canarian Government Department before March 15.
