Tenerife Horse Rescue, a sustainable animal sanctuary located in the south, is hosting Tenerife’s biggest
ever virtual exercise challenge over the month of March.

The challenge, “The Animal March: 80 miles in March,” encourages participants to walk, run or hike 80
miles to fundraise for the 500+ animals seeking refuge at Tenerife Horse Rescue. The challenge hopes to
raise 30,000 euros to pay off a recent land purchase of 30,000 square meters.

“The need of animals on the island is so great that we have no choice but to expand in order to continue
our work,” says Emma Greenfield, founder of Tenerife Horse Rescue, “that’s why this fundraiser is so
important to the future of our sanctuary. We knew we had to do something big, that had never been done
before, to raise awareness of our campaign and get the community on side, while having fun!”

Tenerife Horse Rescue provides a safe haven for all animals—from horses to pigs, turtles, guinea pigs and
even a bearded dragon—that have been abandoned or rescued from abuse and neglect. Built from scratch
over four years with recycled materials and clay, the sanctuary prides itself in giving a second chance to
animals, all cohabiting in harmony with a thriving community of volunteers living sustainably.

The Animal March already has hundreds of animal lovers who have signed up on the Island and all over
the world, ready to walk, run, hike, or cycle in the name of animal welfare and saving the planet. Local
businesses and schools, including Decathlon, Canary Green, and Wingate School, are also getting
involved, connecting many people within the community with a shared love of animals.

“We are so humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support from the community, individuals and
businesses alike,” says Emma, “but there’s still so much more to be done. We hope to engage hundreds
more in the challenge; that way we can pay off the land and continue saving animals from abuse and
neglect.”

All those who sign up on the Island will receive a FREE t-shirt and welcome pack to help them with their
fundraising, and can join a fantastic, supportive online community.
