SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage will present the multidisciplinary exhibition ‘What does not burn’ at Prunus Espacio Multiconcepto (Los Llanos de Aridane) on February 9 at 7:00 p.m. with work by students, teachers and other artists linked to the School of Art Manolo Blahnik.

The ash from the Tajogaite volcano is the central element of this artistic proposal, produced by ‘Be Plátano & Go’ under the direction of Teresa Correa and Izabella Jagiello as curators, to reflect on the landscape and experiences as part of cultural heritage.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Nona Perera, General Director of Cultural Heritage; Mónica Reverón, director of the Manolo Blahnik School; Jovita Monterrey, Minister of Historical Heritage of the Cabildo de La Palma; Teresa Correa, curator, and Miriam Cruz, owner of Prunus Espacio Multiconcepto. To attend as a public you must send an email to [email protected]

The exhibition ‘What does not burn’ will be open until March 31, with free admission, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday and on Fridays and Saturdays it can also be visited in the afternoon from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

FIFTY ARTISTIC WORKS

In the words of the curators, Teresa Correa and Izabella Jagiello, the exhibition includes “proposals on the tension between the real and the symbolic; the matter itself: ash; human-nature interactions and their inexorable indivisibility as part of a process of constant rebirth; the life cycle; recovering the ancestral symbolic world as an allegory of regeneration and community”.

The intention of this creative process, which includes fifty artistic works, is “to ask questions and perhaps find some answers that will allow us to understand that the ashes are what remains and does not burn, an opportunity to learn and be reborn in community”, advance the artists. In addition, the exhibition features unpublished work by Teresa Correa and Izabella Jagiello.

In short, ‘What does not burn’ is presented as “a visual essay on what happens when what we are left with are ashes and all their symbolic weight”, they explain, “a symbolic and silent lament after what happened with the intention of extracting everything positive to feed the future, a total acceptance of the context” and the experiences lived because the concept of cultural heritage is based on the reconstruction of common memory.

This artistic project is included within the Plan for the Recovery of the Cultural Heritage of La Palma promoted by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage together with the Island Council and the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte. This is a pilot project, extrapolated to the rest of the Canary Islands, to develop strategies for action, evacuation, recovery, dissemination and cataloging in emergencies, risks and natural catastrophes.
