The illusion overwhelms Mayte Gutiérrez Febles again. The candidate for Queen of Bonnet Suministros y Maquinaria SL wants to reach the top with the Flor de Luna design. As a great carnival fan, she will enjoy all the acts.

-How do you plan this second year that is presented?
“I arrive with much more desire and enthusiasm. The truth is that I am looking forward to the big moment”.

-How did it come about?
“As I got off the stage, when the three unchosen girls were left behind. It was a moment of great emotion, and there the designers took advantage and asked me if I wanted to do it again and I answered without thinking yes”.

-What can you tell us about the fantasy ‘Flor de Luna’?
“The name says it all, I am very lucky, I am delighted with my fantasy. I’m working on it from the beginning. These days I leave the gym, go home, change and go to the workshop. I am working because I want to and I love to know its details in full. Every day I like it more and I feel that I identify more with the suit”.

-He will come out in the first places again. Does it worry you?
“We continue to open the gala. If last year I was the number one candidate, this year I will be the number two. It’s a responsibility, but I’m not afraid, I’m a carnival fan, I love a stage and the truth is that I’m not nervous and I’ll go out just the same. The important thing is to go on stage with enthusiasm, enthusiasm and to break with your show”.

-What do you think of the theme of this edition, ‘New York, the city that never sleeps’?
“I love it and I identify with New York, because I am like that, a whirlwind. A special city that does not stop 24 hours a day”.

-What do you like to do?
“I cannot tell you that there is something that I like more, because I love to do everything. My friends tell me that I am an all-rounder, that I sign up for everything. I am not good at being still. I love to move, practice sports, enjoy my hobbies, the motor world and dance with Los Cariocas. I say that I live Carnival all year long and I enjoy it to the fullest”.

-Was she a carnival girl?
“Since I was little I loved going out on stage to sing, dance, parade… In El Hierro I have enjoyed the Carneros and I was queen of the Carnival of La Frontera in 2005. When I came to Tenerife to study and then to work, I have been 11 years , I got into the comparsa Los Cariocas. Of course I won’t stop this year either and I’ll be in competitions and on the street. I have asked for vacations and I am connected and dedicated now preparing myself in the gym, helping with the suit, rehearsing with the troupe. I really enjoy and am in love with Carnival”.

-What would it mean to be a Queen or to be among her court of honor?
“For me it would be a source of pride and it is an illusion that I have always had. I would identify with representing Carnival everywhere and I would know how to carry that responsibility. Also, Cavi Lladó’s team deserves it, and I also thank sponsor Bonnet because he is behaving wonderfully”.

-This year we once again enjoy a more ‘normal’ Carnival. You want?
“I would like people to go out into the street, with a lot of head, to enjoy as in the old days. It is our Carnival, that of the people, the best in the world. I hope that everyone can enjoy, that the usual essence of the party is recovered, relive the rhythm of the batucadas, the illusion of putting on our costumes, putting on makeup, the glitter, the sequins, the shine…”.
