Adriana guards the secret of her fantasy like gold on a cloth, which, under the name of Lisboa, will shine in the Santa Cruz Carnival Queen Election Gala. “Neither my mother, to whom I tell everything, she knows what she is like, nor the colors she has,” she told DIARIO DE AVISOS. This 23-year-old girl recently turned works and is trained in the tourism sector. She has been a cabin crew member, a ship stewardess and a veterinary assistant.

Last summer she went to Gambia with the NGO Harit Gambia to teach English and Spanish in a children’s home with another young woman from Gran Canaria. She cared for 30 children, mostly orphans. “I came home with a lot of lessons learned,” she says. Today she is preparing to be the Queen of the first Carnival without restrictions after the pandemic and after gym hours and dress and makeup tests, she stays in the studio of Santi Castro, her designer, to collaborate in the elaboration of the fantasy.

-Who encouraged you to run for Carnival Queen?
“Well, a friend of mine, who, every time he saw me, told me: ‘I want to introduce you to Miss!’. And I told him no, that if he introduced me to something it was Carnival Queen. When Santi took out the casting, he called me and said: ‘Didn’t you say that you wanted to be the Queen of Carnival? Well, introduce yourself. So it was. Almost 40 girls showed up and I remember that in line I heard them say: ‘I am queen of such… and I miss such…!’. And me thinking, well, I’m just the queen of my house. That’s why, when they chose me, I didn’t expect it at all, really. It was a surprise. I was already content with reaching the final”.

– Do you have to be a carnival fan to run for Queen?
“Well, I don’t know, but in my case I am. Since I was little I have danced at the Echeyde Dance Club and we participated in the arena, in the Parade… and when I saw the candidates I perfectly remember that I wanted to be like them”.

Can you tell us about your fantasy?
“No, no, no… no way. I can not say anything. Not even my mother, to whom I tell everything, knows anything, not even if she wants the color ”.

-How much time are you dedicating to tests and gym?
“Well, every day I go to the gym and after work I go directly to the workshop to try out and help with the dress. I love to participate. Santi and his team are a great family. There are 20 people in the workshop who show me every day what they love me and how aware they are of me. That Marcos and María dressed me [en referencia al traje de presentación]For me it is a fantasy, a dream. I never imagined living something like this. Whether I win or not, what I am experiencing is not taken from me by anyone. The Castro family is already my family and next year they will have me in the workshop helping the next candidate”.

-The thing about going out this year is complicated, right?
“Well, I hope I have a day to go out, because my friends and I are the type of people who work hard on the costume and we are preparing it a month before.”

-So it’s one of the foresighted ones, not one of those last-minute Chinese ones…
“No way! We work it out. We order things online with time… we are 100% foreseeable. That is why I hope to have one day and, if not, nothing, this year I will enjoy Carnival in a different way. So if I don’t go out because I have to go to events since I’m a Queen or a Lady, then nothing happens”.

-And the costume you have with your friends, you can tell me about it, right?
“Yes Yes. That one. Let’s go Power Rangers. I’m wearing pink.”
