The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife closed the year 2022, positioning itself as the second in the country in passenger movement. The 6,264,726 registered, with an associated increase of 35 percent, ratify the ports of the Tenerife province among the national leadership positions in said traffic, only surpassed by the Balearic Islands Port Authority.
Of this total, 5.1 million correspond to passengers under the transport regime, that is, users of the regular passenger lines that connect the islands, a specialty that increased by 23.08 percent compared to 2021. For its part , the number of cruise passengers, with 800,000, places the Port Authority among the five in the country that experienced the greatest growth in this modality last year.
Regarding the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a total of 2,269,367 passengers passed through the facility in 2022, 60 percent more than in 2021, corresponding in turn to 1.6 million passengers on transport and 542,290 to cruise passengers. , triple those registered in 2021.
After the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it was the port of La Gomera that registered the highest number of passengers under the transport regime, moving 1,193,500 passengers, 294,000 more than the previous year.
Widespread hikes. But not only the number of passengers grew.
GOODS TRAFFIC
Freight traffic also experienced positive highlights in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 10.5 million tons of total traffic moved from January to December, 1.2 million more than in 2021, and consequently 13.07 percent. further.
Within this section, both general merchandise, with practically six million tons moved, and liquid bulk with 3.5 million tons and an increase of 22 percent, and the supplies themselves, both water and cargo, improved their figures. fuel, with 541 tons supplied and a percentage increase of 36 percent over the previous year.
Only solid bulk traffic fell in 2022, showing a decrease of 9 percent, as a result of the 40,000 fewer tons moved in relation to the previous year, thus stagnating at 391,440.
As far as containers are concerned, 263,900 units passed through the port of Tenerife, 26,400 more, which translates into a positive of 11 percent and practically 3,000 ships were provisioned, 409 more than in the previous year.
