The old crane depot located on Camino Espinero, next to Camino de La Villa, has been converted into a public car park. The City Hall of La Laguna has enabled 60 places for vehicles. The plot, owned by Muvisa, has an approximate area of 1,650 square meters and as of yesterday it began to function as an unattended perimeter car park open 24 hours a day.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutierrez, who visited this infrastructure together with neighborhood representatives and Muvisa technicians, celebrated the use of a space “that responds to an old demand from the residents of the area.” And he added: «The lack of parking in certain points of the municipality is a situation that we cannot ignore and from The Government of La Laguna has the commitment to continue preparing public land to improve the provision of car parks and thus facilitate displacement and revitalization of our towns and neighborhoods.
For his part, the president of the Camino Real de La Villa Neighborhood Association, Roberto Marrero, recalled that “this is a claim that we had already made to the previous corporation. We have been fighting for this for more than four years, since we created the association, because we have a big problem in the neighborhood in terms of parking. Thanks to the current mayor, today we see the first steps of what will be more parking areas that will benefit and give quality of life to the neighborhood, “according to the press release sent by the Consistory.
To enable the plot, a series of actions have been carried out, such as the cleaning the pavement, marking the squares and placing traffic signs, improving the perimeter fencing, leaving it at a low height to facilitate visibility, and lighting poles have been arranged to provide it with security. This is the first public car park of these characteristics that Muvisa has launched. It currently has another four guarded and paid in Plaza del Cristo, Calle Rodríguez Moure, Taco and Las Quinteras.
Along with these actions, the City Council Environment area is cleaning the Cha Marta ravine. In a subsequent action, it is planned to build a pedestrian walkway that crosses this ravine, connecting the new public parking lot with the gardens and the pedestrian walkway that borders Mencey Izora street.
