SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A total of 11,873 people enrolled in 2022 in one of the training categories offered by Radio ECCA’s Fórmate project, which has a grant of 59,900 euros from the Cabildo de Tenerife to offer training to adults who want to improve their academic level .

This was announced at a press conference in which the report of the Fórmate project of Radio ECCA was presented and which included the participation of the Island Councilor for Education and Youth, Concepción Rivero; the general director of Radio ECCA, José María Segura, and the delegate in Tenerife, Ricardo Felipe.

The counselor explained that there is a direct relationship between the level of training and job placement: “This means that the less studies people have, the higher the unemployment rate.”

Concepción Rivero indicated that through Fórmate, the Cabildo collaborates in promoting the reincorporation of the adult population without studies into the educational system to raise their cultural level, increase their job opportunities and thus reduce the numbers of unemployed people without studies.

The counselor stressed that thanks to the work of Radio ECCA, during the past year 766 people enrolled in basic training, either initial or Compulsory Secondary Education; 280 students took part in the Baccalaureate, and 68 enrollments were registered in the Higher Cycle of Social Integration.

Likewise, the counselor pointed out that to these figures must be added the more than 10,700 students who participated in training activities on topics such as languages, accounting, health, social intervention or the environment, among others.

For his part, the general director of Radio ECCA thanked the Cabildo for its involvement in this project, assuring that it is “an ally for ECCA and an ally for education.” In addition, he pointed out that the lines of work of both entities are the same: “We seek to break the digital divide, by giving opportunities to the most disadvantaged groups, and promoting training as a tool to access jobs.”

The delegate of Radio ECCA in Tenerife, Ricardo Felipe, defined the Fórmate project as “a strategy to motivate people to resume their studies, especially those groups with more difficulties”, and added that ECCA “has a special commitment to the women, who make up 63% of its students, and non-EU people, who represent 28%”.

In this line, he emphasized the 48 centers that Radio ECCA has distributed throughout all the municipalities of the Island, which allow training to reach even those who do not have the means to travel.

Fórmate is an initiative promoted by a group of teachers and volunteers from Radio ECCA that offers distance training, personalized advice, tutoring and flexible hours with the aim that the general population, but especially those unemployed and low-income people who have abandoned their studies early, rejoin the educational system.

The Cabildo de Tenerife has contributed to financing this initiative so that the adults of Tenerife, especially young people in a situation of unemployment, improve their training and increase their job opportunities. To this end, the Island Corporation has carried out dissemination actions and has hired several professionals who carry out activities of coordination, connection with resources and dynamization of young people in the different regions of the island of Tenerife.

Radio ECCA emerged in the Canary Islands in 1965 with the aim of training adults through three interdependent elements: didactic material, the audio class over the radio and the tutorial action. Each year it responds to the educational needs of some 42,000 people.
