But, above all, the environment will win, by diverting less garbage and avoid the use of chemical fertilizers that damage the soil».
This program provides for the construction of three municipal compost bins, of which one is already operational. As of this week, residents who wish to can deposit their organic waste at this point. At the moment, a total of 63 families from Vitora have already joined this initiative, “a number that will increase as the project becomes known,” explains the mayor.
The Consistory is in charge of delivering the buckets for the deposit of waste at home, at the same time that it carries out explanatory sessions on what compost is, what it is used for, what organic remains must be separated for its preparation, and how the area will work of vermicomposting. This program takes place in the farm El Pinaron a surface of 500 square meterswhere three spaces have been enabled: the area of vermicompstaje, where the three large municipal compost bins are located; a community garden of aromatic herbs, and a zone of recovery of the vegetation of the thermophilic forest.
The garden will serve to “create the necessary community feeling and citizen participation, since anyone who wishes can both plant new aromatic plants and take home the ones they need, “according to the Government of Vitorio. The recovery of vegetation from the thermophilic forest will help to recover the disappeared biodiversity of the area, attracting pollinating insects that contribute to the growth of new autochthonous flora and, with it, to achieve a better balance in the environment, which will favor the pest control.
