SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 31 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Popular Party candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, said this Tuesday that the trip of members of the Government of the Canary Islands to Brussels and Hamburg to seek financing for the trains “arrives late” and recalled that their formation is ” the only one” that has insisted throughout this mandate on promoting, in Tenerife, the projects of the South and North trains “as fundamental tools to guarantee effective and efficient mobility on our island”.
In his opinion, “we have lost the last four years due to the fear of the parties in the insular government of losing the external support of a political minority”, while stressing that thanks to the support of the Popular Party for the insular budgets of 2023, has managed to “bring back to the political debate the importance of defending the infrastructures that are of special relevance for the present and the future of Tenerife, such as trains”.
In relation to the position of the current president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso demands that he “lead the search for financing for the trains, instead of remaining a mere spectator of what the Government of the Canary Islands is doing”, and reminds him that “the Cabildo raised and approved a mobility plan for Tenerife, at the request of a proposal from the Popular Party, and after almost 4 years, we still do not know its content.
Afonso insists that “the fact that members of the Government of the Canary Islands are present in Brussels seeking financing is confirmation of the advisability of working on these projects” and claims that we must “seriously consider the development of these projects from now on, Tenerife cannot keep waiting, because opportunities are lost”.
Thus, he concludes that it is not possible to “stop the train of progress in Tenerife and the maintenance of jobs”.
