The mayor of The RealejosAdolfo González, and the Councilor for Fiestas of the host town of the XII Northern Murgas Children’s Contest and the XXIX Northern Murgas Adult Contestpresented both appointments on January 31 in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall, with the presence of the councilors of Fiestas de the orotavaAlexis Pacheco, from Garachico, Andrés Hernández, from Icod de los Vinos, Sebastián Gorrín, and from Tacoronte, Sandra Izquierdo, accompanied by representatives of several of the participating murgas.
Adolfo González recalled that “in the rotating shift between municipalities of the region that make up the Comunorte, Los Realejos had assumed its role as the next venue for the edition that should have been held in 2021 and that prevented the pandemic, just as it happened in 2022, postponing the appointment until this 2023 in which we are already with all the preparations on the esplanade of the Casa del Emprendedor, in the Gañanía Industrial Estate, where we celebrate both the children’s contest and the adult contest in the respective editions of the year 2016 ».
A capacity expandable to 2,300
There, the Los Realejos City Council has provided a capacity of around 1,865 people, “expandable according to the security plan up to 2,300, if circumstances require it”, as Isabel Socorro advanced. Four children’s groups star in the regional meeting this Sunday
The children’s contest, to be held this Sunday, February 5, will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the participation of four murgas, in the following order: Tiralengüines (Icod de los Vinos), Ferrusquentitos (Garachico), Raviscuditos (Tacoronte) and Minivirgues (La Orotava).
The XXIX Adult Murgas Contest will have 9 participants, distributed in two phases of 5 and 4 murgas, respectively. On Monday, February 6 at 8:30 p.m., the first one will begin with Tiralenguas (Icod de los Vinos), Ferrusquentos (Garachico), MásQuepotras (Puerto de la Cruz), Virgueritos (La Orotava) and Irónicos (Los Realejos). . On Tuesday, February 7 at 8:30 p.m., Chaladas (Icod de los Vinos) will open the phase, followed by Pizzicatos (La Orotava), Retornados (Los Realejos) and Trinkosos (La Orotava). The 9 murgas will seek a pass for the final to 6, scheduled for Saturday, February 11, also at 8:30 p.m.
