The NiFú NiFá sharpener is presented in this 2023 with renewed energy, not only in its artistic and musical direction, but also in the desire with which it faces the Carnival of reunion with the public in its entirety.

Last Friday, at the Real Casino de Tenerife, they presented what will be their fantasy for these carnivals, and which is entitled Clown of diversity, a design that, as its president, Cristóbal Reyes, told DIARIO DE AVISOS, “has had much acceptance, people have really liked the colors”. A presentation in which the murga was accompanied by the comparsa Los Rumberos and the Masa Coral Tinerfeña.

The murga faces this Carnival with a lot of “excitement”. “We return to the usual style of the murga, from which we had moved away, and we do it with great enthusiasm, I think with good songs,” he explained.

It will be in the murgas finale this Friday, where it will be possible to verify the quality of these songs, since, as is traditional, they will be the opening act for the eight murgas that are finalists and that will come out of the three phases that, since last night, have been held at the Fairgrounds. One of those themes is nothing more and nothing less than 42 years old.

“Despite its antiquity, we can assure that its handwriting is very current,” Reyes explained. The subject in question was written by the legendary lyricist of the Fufa Nicolás Mingorance. “It’s called The Rapists. We have introduced some verses to bring it up to date, but the first verse is exactly the same as it was 42 years ago,” he stressed.

The other theme that the murga has prepared is entitled Censorship. “We want to reflect that, despite the fact that we were born in the midst of a dictatorship, where there was censorship, today, despite being in a democracy, there is more censorship,” Reyes explained.

The legendary Cubanito could not be missing from the NiFú NiFá program. “We cannot forget our neighbors across the street,” added the president.

The NiFú NiFá Afilarmónica celebrated its 60th anniversary in Carnival in 2021, although, as Reyes recalls, “it is more than 70, because before we already went out as Los Bigotudos”. The secret to staying for so many years, assured Reyes, has to do with “maintaining the essence of the murga.”

“We keep one or two voices at most, we try to entertain the public with short, clear songs, so that the lyrics are understood, and not complicate our lives with so many hours of rehearsal as the murgas do, and carry the style of what is a murga, of what Enrique González founded”, he commented. Returning to the contest is not part of Fufa’s plans, “at least while I am president.”
