Fiber optics finally reaches a neighborhood where 3,400 realejeros live

Fiber optics finally arrives in the neighborhood of Icod the Tallwhere they reside more than 3,400 realejeros. The mayor of The Realejos, Adolfo González (PP)informed this Tuesday that Telefónica “has already begun the long-awaited deployment project of this network that will provide broadband to the nucleus of Icod el Alto, after carrying out the pertinent previous connection tasks in tigaiga and start with the advance of the wiring through the area of El Lance”.

At the end of last year, 2022, it had already been announced that these preliminary works were being carried out and that “following the commitment of telephonein these first months of 2023 they would be executing the deployment that facilitates fiber optic coverage to the more than 3,400 inhabitants registered in this area of Icod the Tall”, exposes the mayor.

Adolfo Gonzalez clarifies that “the operator reiterates that the rate of deployment of fiber optic It will depend on the speed with which citizens authorize with their private permits the use of their facades or poles on their properties, which allow the passage of the necessary fiber cable infrastructures and the subsequent installation of optical boxes, which has been marked fast forward or slow down deployment in other areas.

The pace of deployment will depend on the predisposition and speed of the private permits for the use of their facades for wiring.

For fiber optics to reach Icod el Alto in 2021, “the constant demand from the neighborhood has been decisive, which organized a signature collection in 2021 and asked for the support of City Hall of Los Realejos also, through its Department of New technologies, to put on the table the need to meet this demand as soon as possible”. In González’s opinion, it is key “to be able to provide connectivity to the area, after having gone through so many difficulties and grievances with respect to other environments in the municipality. Situation that students, shops and companies, among other groups, have suffered first-hand, in addition to the public buildings of this nucleus ”.

“In times of distance training, teleworking, delivery of work and tasks by students through digital platforms, electronic commerce or accounting and business administrative management, electronic procedures for citizens, a population area that does not have the necessary connectivity suffers the authentic digital gap that is not acceptable in the 21st centuryso we believe that finally seeing the light of this project is one of the best news for our municipality and specifically for the nucleus of Icod el Alto and its population”, acknowledges the mayor of Los Realejos.

The Councilor for New Technologies and Urban Planning of Los Realejos, Laura Lima (PP)thanks “that the need has finally been understood and this project has been unblocked by telephone”, wishing that “there are no more bureaucratic or physical obstacles, for which this City Council is available to facilitate everything in our power, hoping that it will also be assumed by the citizens”.

The councilor for the Icod el Alto area, Alexis Hernandez (PP)highlights “the patience shown by neighbors in this area, who will finally see increased connectivity possibilities and will be able to use an internet network in conditions and suitable for private use and fundamentally for educational, commercial fields , business and services”.
