María Teresa Cotonat, pediatrician at the Valverde Health Center, attached to the Health Services of the El Hierro Health Area, received this Monday at the Valverde Casino the Simple Cross of the Civil Health Order granted by the Ministry of Health
The award was delivered by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, and the event was attended by the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, as well as other island authorities.
During her speech, María Teresa Cotonat thanked the Ministry of Health for the recognition and wanted to share it with her colleagues from the Valverde Health Center and the Nuestra Señora de los Reyes Hospital, acknowledging that she felt like one more person from El Hierro after more than twenty years living and working in the island.
“This island conquered me, and after four months it was already clear to me that I would retire on the island,” he said.
For his part, the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, assured that pediatrics is one of the most beautiful tasks of medicine and the population is “in the hands of excellent professionals.”
In addition, he thanked Cotonat for her work and dedication, as well as her dedication to the profession of pediatrician, which makes her worthy of the recognition of the entire population of the island.
Likewise, he wanted to highlight his humanitarian work in caring for the migrant pediatric population that arrives in El Hierro.
The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, extended the tribute to pediatrician Teresa Cotonat to all health professionals who are the backbone of the National Health System, while explaining that professionals who work in non-capital areas, especially in Attention Primary, as is the case with Dr. Cotonat, they are a benchmark for the entire SNS and allow them to transmit their values such as equity, universality or cohesion.
In addition, both the Minister and the President of the Canary Islands and the Minister of Health thanked the work, effort and dedication of this pediatrician who for more than 23 years has attended and cared for several generations of people from El Hierro.
María Teresa Cotonat Vives has been providing her services as a pediatrician in the El Hierro Health Services since the year 2000, after practicing her specialty in the Madrid health service.
Specifically, she works as a Primary Care physician attached to the Valverde Health Center, with more than 34 years of practicing Pediatrics.
The doctor is a benchmark in El Hierro for her dedication and care vocation to the pediatric population of the island, she shows unconditional support for her colleagues in Specialized Care and altruistically collaborates in the care of migrant minors who arrive on El Hierro, points out the Counseling in a note.
The Civil Health Order is the highest Spanish civil decoration that is granted as a public honour, distinction and recognition to reward relevant or exceptional merits, conduct, activities or services in the field of health.
