CC demands speed in the works for the reopening of the municipal swimming pool

Canarian Coalition (DC) regrets the continued closure of the municipal swimming pool, which has been closed since last summer. The nationalist candidate for mayor of Guía de Isora, Ana Dorta, recalls that this resource ceased its activity “under the argument that various maintenance works had to be undertaken”, and that they would be carried out in three months.

“Many users have had to resort to other swimming pools in nearby municipalities, without any type of help for their displacements or registration and with the disruption that this entails,” says Dorta, who recalls that a private company manages the facility “and it has not yet been It has communicated to the users if the administrative process has already been processed and what will happen to the workers (monitors) who had been carrying out their work until last summer.

The Isoran nationalists demand that the government group “do not delay the opening of a resource of such importance to so many people any longer.”, that the necessary works be carried out as quickly as possible and that all the incidents that derive from poor maintenance be repaired both in the facilities themselves and in some homes near the pool. They also request that the labor rights of the staff be respected “and that, if they wish, they can be subrogated to the new company that will manage this service.”

Ana Dorta states that the municipal government “should think that this service, like the Residence for the Elderly itself, cannot remain closed any longer, because it not only represents facilities for swimming and exercising, but also because it has a therapeutic function for many users with various ailments. For this reason, the nationalist candidate for the Isorana mayor’s office asks the socialists for “responsibility, seriousness and speed to solve this matter as soon as possible.”

Paúl Santos, Councilor for Sports, clarifies that the initial delay in the work is due “solely and exclusively” to the failure of the first winning company to submit the documentation. On September 14, the contracting table took place and on the 25th of that same month, the adjudication. “However, in the following 30 days – the time stipulated by law – the company did not present the required documentation, which meant that on October 27 the City Council had to award the works to the company that presented the second best offer in the contest”.

The Socialists state that the work “is not intended to undertake various maintenance works”, as pointed out by the Canary Islands Coalition, but to bring improvements in terms of accessibility and energy efficiency: install solar panels, replace machinery, replace pavement and other improvements to accessibility. Everything to adapt the facilities to current regulations and make them more efficient. This ignorance “denotes, at the very least, lack of interest and ignorance on the part of CC about the actions that are carried out in our municipality.”

The mayor regrets that from CC “they have not shown interest in knowing the details of the project, but now that the elections are approaching, suddenly, they are very concerned about the progress of the pool,” he continues.

Santos assures that the pool workers will be able to continue carrying out the “magnificent work” they have been doing: “We will guarantee the right of employees to continue in their jobs,” he says. Likewise, he anticipates that the tender for his management is already being prepared.
