The Sustainable Mobility Area of the La Laguna City Council is working on replacing almost half of the fleet of the urban public transport network with six new fully accessible electric buses, which will mean an investment of more than three million euros during this year and 2024. An action that is already being tested with face-to-face tours of some selected routes to be able to verify their technical benefits and their adaptation to the needs and demands transmitted by the population of all districts in the recent study of municipal buses.
After the use of a larger model on the 219 (which runs through the neighborhoods of Las Chumberas, Los Majuelos, El Cardonal, Taco and San Matías), this week, the Area team and representatives of Titsa, both technical and executive staff , have been testing a new electric and accessible bus on the routes of lines 271 (which links the La Laguna Interchange with the Las Mercedes mountain) and 206 (circular route from the Interchange and that passes through the Camino Real roundabout from La Verdellada, the old bus station, Juana La Blanca, 6 de Diciembre and El Juego streets and La Trinidad avenue). Both lines are linked to the Low Emission Zones proposed by the municipality.
These routes, explained the councilor responsible for the Area, Rubens Ascanio, allow us “to see the maneuverability of the bus and if its technical features meet the needs that the population and neighborhood associations have transmitted to us before starting the acquisition process.” . The renewal process of the six vehicles will be developed as the suppliers have availability of vehicles and for which an economic endowment of more than 3 million has already been provided.
The mayor recalled that, in recent years, the Area has promoted a complete study on the necessary actions in the urban transport network to renew and reinforce the service, responding to the demands of the population and advancing towards a more inclusive and responsible with the environment.
