The government team brought to plenary yesterday the file in which the decision of the Price Commission of the Government of the Canary Islands to raise the water rate in Santa Cruz by only 2.5% is appealed.
The mayor of Public Services, Carlos Tarife, defended that “both Emmasa and the municipal technicians maintain that the increase must be 7.9% to cover the costs of the service, because, otherwise, Emmasa would incur losses.”
From the PSOE, the government team was reproached for “hiding” from the Price Commission that Emmasa is going to recover three million a year for the return of the canon, “which, added to the two million that no longer come out, is five million more to Emmasa’s credit, so there would be no imbalance”, pointed out Patricia Hernández.
The former mayor also pointed out that this same month a ruling has been reached in which it is stated that the City Council is not obliged to pay two million to Emmasa as compensation for not having raised the rate. “The sentence agrees with the City Council and takes it away from Emmasa, and they don’t say anything about that either,” she explained.
Regarding this sentence, Tarife pointed out that the legal services are studying it, since, even if it is not with two million, they will have to compensate with some amount.
