The Polished Bakery Saint Matthew got his first win of the new year by getting rid of another of the contenders for the playoff of promotion in the Canarian group of Tercera RFEF as Santa Úrsula (0-1). Israel Quintana’s team conquered Argelio Tabares with a solitary goal from Ale González, from a direct corner, in the final stretch of the first half. After the restart, the Tenerife side had chances, at least, for the tie, but they were unsuccessful.
The first part was characterized by a lot of respect between the two teams, which led to few scoring opportunities. Most of the game took place in the vicinity of the center of the field, seeing an intense match on the field of play without a clear dominator.
Santa Úrsula was more incisive against a San Mateo team that took advantage of its opportunity to go into the break with an advantage on the scoreboard. When the quarter hour was up, the locals had their first approach with a shot by Miguel from the edge of the area that was stopped, in two halves, by goalkeeper Álex Guanche from Gran Canaria. The Pulido Bakery replied with a direct game looking for its attacking duo, made up of its latest signing, Pedro Manzi, and Ale González.
The game was level until in minute 39 the visitors unbalanced the contest with a shot from Ale González, from a direct corner, which surprised goalkeeper Juanje.
After the break, Santa Úrsula, with the arrival of Víctor and Xerach on the scene, took control of the game from the beginning, looking for a tie. The tackles on the wing hurt the Gran Canaria defense, and Stéfano had two quite clear chances to establish the equalizer.
local harassment
In the 57th minute, under the sticks, the same Santa Úrsula player shot over the crossbar when the goal was called. Two minutes later, after a good assist from Vitolo, once again the rojiblanco striker stood alone before Álex Guanche, who guessed the shot to deflect the ball with his hand.
Crouched down and with a trade, the Pulido San Mateo Bakery let the minutes go by against a team from Tenerife that was desperately looking for a tie. In the extra time, the rojiblancos were about to put the scoreboard on the scoreboard, but Azael’s header found the saving save of Álex Guanche.
