The La Laguna Sustainable Mobility Area announces an investment of 3 million euros this year and the next to renew half of the fleet of the urban public bus network and introduce six new electric and fully accessible ones. Municipal managers and technicians are already testing one of these vehicles with routes to be able to analyze its technical performance and its adaptation to the needs transmitted by the population of all districts in the recent study of municipal buses.
After using a larger model on line 219 (Las Chumberas, Los Majuelos, El Cardonal, Taco and San Matías), this week the team from the Laguna Town Hall area and representatives of the public company titsadependent on the Council of Tenerifethey have been testingor a new electric micro and accessible in the routes of the lines 271 (which connects the La Laguna Interchange with the mount of Las Mercedes) and the 206 (circular route from the Intercambiador and that passes through the roundabout of the Camino Real de La Verdellada, the old bus station, Juana La Blanca, streets 6 de Diciembre and El Juego and the avenue of La Trinidad), both linked to the Zones of Low Emissions proposed by the municipality.
Among the improvements that are going to be implemented in La Laguna is the renewal of at least six of the buses that currently serve the urban route, a process that will be developed as providers have availability of vehicles and for the that an economic endowment of more than 3 million euros has already been provided.
Sustainable Mobility had already enabled an item of 1,139,000 euros in the latest budgets, temporarily extended, and which will be increased in the new accounts for this 2023 to acquire the first two non-polluting vehicles and install the specific charging connections and necessary complementary facilities .
Rubens Ascanio, head of the Department of Mobility, recalls that in recent years the area has promoted a complete study on the necessary actions in the urban transport network to “renew and reinforce the service, responding to the demands of the population and advancing towards a more inclusive and responsible model with the environment”.
“We are working on the application of numerous measures to encourage the use of more sustainable and healthy transport models”, assured Ascanio, adding that “this includes a complete intervention in our field of competence, that of urban public transport, which we have jointly designed with citizens and that, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it will allow us to expand the resources adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility in different parts of the municipality where there is a special demand, such as Jardina or the Way of Las Mercedes».
“Guarantee the security”
The councilor for Unidas can appreciate that “we want to guarantee safety and comfort from the moment the service is accessed, improving the urban network, modernizing vehicles, introducing more sustainable systems and updating the stops and lines to the real needs of the whole of the population of the municipality. The goal is to make public transport “attractive enough” to discourage forms of transport that are unsustainable.
