In the coming months, the Gracia neighborhood of La Laguna will recover the use as a public car park of the plot located on Rector Ángel M. Gutiérrez Navarro street with the corner of Camino de la Hornera, and which has been closed for more than two years, after the City Council has already signed the collaboration agreement with the University of La Laguna (ULL) for the temporary transfer of the plot, which is their property.

In the last session of the municipal plenary session, the local government explained that the signing of said agreement had taken place that same week, that is, at the beginning of this month, after completing the “complex” internal administrative procedure of the University itself for the assignment of space.

Now, the next step will be “to have the economic item available to put the aforementioned plot in conditions of use and safety, given that it is a priority work and that an attempt will be made to carry it out as soon as possible.”

In this sense, as specified yesterday from the Works Area, once the municipal budget for 2023 is approved, the works for the installation of a protection fence on the plot will be tendered, due to the unevenness it has, and from the Area It will undertake with its own means the asphalting of the site for its use, reusing the milling of other works. Both actions represent a total investment of approximately 60,000 euros, provided for in the accounts for this year. The City Council had announced in September 2020 that it had reached an agreement with the ULL for the temporary transfer of the plot, so that it could be used again as a public car park by students and residents.

It should be remembered that some maintenance works had forced the closure of the site, since stones had been falling from a slope.

60 seats

In view of the neighborhood demands to continue using the site as a car park, the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, contacted the rector of the ULL and the vice-rector for university infrastructures, who were in favor of the site recovering its use as a car park. .

It is a plot of 2,081 square meters, with a usable platform for vehicles of about 1,200 square meters and in which more than 60 parking spaces are calculated.
