The mayor of The lagoon and president of Group of World Heritage Cities of Spain, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, expressed, within the framework of the recent International Tourism Fair (Fitur) held in Madrid, the objective “of having the presence of the Paradores establishments in the 15 cities of the Group”, since at present only three do not have a hostel: Tarragona, Baeza and La Laguna. A claim that he has expressed repeatedly during this mandate.
In the specific case of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez indicated that he has expressed this request on different occasions, both to the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, during his visit to the municipality in January last year, and during the Assembly of Mayors and Mayors of the Group held in March 2022 in La Laguna. Meeting in which the mayor announced the proposal made to the Ministry and the Secretary of State for Tourism to study from a technical point of view the possible location of a hostel in Mesa Mota, although without ruling out other locations in the municipality “that meet the more than sufficient conditions to house this infrastructure that would enrich the accommodation plant of our city, in a historic center recognized by Unesco”, he valued.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez took advantage of the presentation of the Joint Action Plan between the Group and Paradores to convey to the president of this entity, Pedro Saura, the request that all Spanish Heritage Cities have one of these quality accommodation establishments.
Currently, 11 cities of the Group have a Parador de Turismo (Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Cáceres, Córdoba, Cuenca, Mérida, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Toledo and Úbeda) and the Parador de Ibiza is under construction, in the Castle of Dalt Vila. On the other hand, La Laguna, together with Tarragona and Baeza, lack this hotel infrastructure that they have been claiming for years.
“With these three new establishments, we would complete the network and we would be in a position to offer a comprehensive offer to the traveler. We know that Paradores is aware of this demand and that it is working to settle this ‘pending account’ that would be so beneficial for both parties and I am confident that it will become a reality sooner rather than later”, assured the mayor.
