SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (Hecansa), has launched a regional training project for Entrepreneurship Agent of marine tourism and fishing-tourism called ‘La Chalana’ .
This initiative is the first milestone within Hecansa’s Blue and Circular Economy program, which emerged within the Blue Economy and Circular Economy Strategy 2021-2030 of the Government of the Canary Islands. The objective is to make the most of the potential of activities related to the marine and maritime sectors, with the purpose of achieving sustainable growth from the opportunities of the ocean and the coast.
This entrepreneurship agent training in marine tourism and fishing-tourism arises as a result of the needs identified in the fishing sector to improve the opportunities for the insertion of workers in these new niches focused on tourism, so that they can collaborate, in turn, with the fishermen’s guilds and cooperatives of the archipelago to promote and launch new tourism products linked to fishing activities in the coastal territory.
In this way, it seeks to create a space for the acceleration of the entrepreneurship of marine tourism and fishing-tourism products that promotes the participation of the actors of the maritime-fishing and tourism sector in the development of actions in the local environment and in the dissemination of the natural, social and cultural heritage of the marine environment, betting on sustainability and care for the environment.
A total of 18 students from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, El Hierro and La Graciosa have access to a 250-hour training program. Under a dual blended modality, the contents are related to online marketing, the design and promotion of websites, the development and management of business plans for micro-enterprises, intervention in the community, marine tourism and fishing- sightseeing.
Among the activities to be carried out, the participants have to carry out training activities linked to their training program in collaboration with the Fishing Associations, Cooperatives and Entities of their respective territories.
The training given at Hoteles Escuela de Canarias aims to instill this kind of values among the students. Through the different training programs offered, the teaching staff and the rest of the Hecansa professionals have opted to include a study methodology based on sustainable development, the promotion of local products, digitization and innovation.
The presentation of this project was attended by the General Director of Tourism Management and Promotion and CEO of Hoteles Escuela de Canarias, Ciprián Rivas, and the Managing Director of Hecansa, José Juan Cárdenes.
