SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has opened the Island Office for the elderly in the municipality of La Laguna, dedicated entirely to the attention of entities, associations, groups of the elderly and the elderly population on the Island.

The insular president, Pedro Martín, has paid a visit to this service, in which he has highlighted that it is “a project for which he has been waiting for years and that, finally, this mandate has come true”.

Pedro Martín valued the work that the Cabildo carries out in the area of the elderly, “with a care model based on closeness and accompaniment, centered on people, to be closer to our elders, listen to their needs and adjust our policies and actions to their reality and, especially, to older people who are in a situation of vulnerability,” he said.

He also stressed that it is “a place to listen to the elderly, give them assistance and information and connect them with the activities that are carried out in the different municipalities of the island, where in addition to meetings for the elderly they have the opportunity to participate in community activities, sharing experiences, in short, making them feel useful and capable as citizens of the island”.

The office is located at Calle Bencomo, number 19, in La Laguna, and will provide services in person, by telephone, and online, with initial opening hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, the CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Social Welfare and Sustainable Mobility of La Laguna, Rubens, participated in this visit. Ascanio, the Councilor for Culture of La Laguna, Yaiza López, together with representatives of the Insular Council of the Mayor of all the regions of the island.

ELDERLY-FRIENDLY MUNICIPALITY.

The first deputy mayor of La Laguna, Rubens Ascanio, pointed out that he is proud to have this service in La Laguna from which to attend to all the elderly on the island. Ascanio highlighted that La Laguna is the first town in the Canary Islands that has been recognized with the title of ‘Senior Friendly Municipality’: “The municipality has always been very involved in policies for the elderly and this space will allow us to have one more instrument to facilitate the participation and accompaniment of the older residents of La Laguna and the island as a whole,” he said.

For his part, the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, explained that the opening of this Island Office is part of the Conecta Mayores program, promoted through the Social Action area of the Cabildo de Tenerife with the aim of improving the well-being and quality of life of the island’s elderly residents, facilitating their social integration and promoting their active and healthy ageing.

“Everything related to leisure, tourism, places in residences or home care programs, family accompaniment, among other resources, can be collected through this service,” explained Gugliotta, who placed special emphasis on the fact that the The office will not only have these uses, “it is a street service to inform the groups and associations of the island about the wide range of activities and services of the Conecta Mayores program.”

“A team of facilitators will visit the entities, associations and administrations to promote the associative fabric and channel their participation in the actions and activities of the Cabildo de Tenerife”. “The Conecta Mayores program is going to have an information and dissemination point here, but, above all, a point of participation to listen to the older people of Tenerife, to which they can send us all their suggestions and requests,” he added.
