SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa) and Metrotenerife, transport companies of the Cabildo de Tenerife, have managed to attract 46,327 new customers since the beginning of the free service. Specifically, of the 102,535 subscriptions that have been recharged in the first three weeks of January, 45% correspond to new users.

The insular Councilor for Mobility and president of both transport companies, Enrique Arriaga, explained that “we have seen a notable increase in recharges since the start of free recharges, but what stands out most is that almost half of these customers are new users of these vouchers, that is, people who until now did not use public transport or who, if they did, traveled with cards that were not registered”.

Arriaga assured that “this is evidence that we are managing to boost the frequent use of public transport and promote less use of private vehicles” and stressed that “despite the high figures recorded, the transport companies are carrying out all the necessary steps to maintain the quality of the service and, with it, keep the users who are joining public transport”

The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, highlighted that the data indicates an issuance of approximately 2,000 new monthly passes per day, which means that each day has this number of new users who add to the use of buses and trams ” Despite this, the island director assured that we must wait until next month to see if all the people who have purchased these monthly passes have used them enough to continue enjoying the free status.”

After this first month of application of the rate, those who wish to maintain it must meet the stipulated number of trips to be considered a frequent user, which is set at 15. In case of meeting this requirement, to renew the subscription, the current price of around between 15 and 19 euros.

The request for registered tickets for both buses and trams can be made through the TenMas website and has an issuance cost of 5 euros that is paid at the time of collection. To carry out this procedure, a photograph of the user is necessary, as well as one of their identity document on both sides.
