The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located this monday a magnitude 3.4 earthquake between Tenerife Y Gran Canariain the area of the seabed where it is found the one known as Enmedio Volcano. The tremor was recorded at 11:10 a.m. at a depth of 9 kilometers.
In the last 24 hours, the IGN has located a total of 12 earthquakestwo in the Volcán de Enmedio area, six in Tenerife (Vilaflor, Guía de Isora, Arico, Granadilla and Güímar), three in The Palm (Mazo and El Paso) and one in Betancuria, Fuerteventura.
More than 3,000 earthquakes in the Canary Islands in 2022
Almost 3,250 earthquakes in one year in the Canary Islands. It is the summary of the seismicity registered in the Archipelago during the past 2022 according to data from the IGN, which places most of the movements on La Palma.
In total, during the last twelve months, the IGN registered a total of 3,241 seismic movements. From them, 1,882 were located on La Palma and are mostly associated with the post-eruptive process that the Island has suffered since the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano in Cumbre Vieja between September and December 2021.
Tenerife is the next island in number of registered earthquakes, with 706, although according to the IGN expert, Itahiza Domínguez, another 404 were located in what is known as the Enmedio volcano area, between Tenerife and Gran Canaria. It is precisely in this strip where it was located the most intense earthquake of the year, with 3.7.
