The journalist Daniel Cerdán Elcid will receive the Patricio Estévanez Award tomorrow at the headquarters of the Association of Journalists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (APT). Cerdán, current Commissioner for Transparency of Canary Islandshas been recognized with this distinction for his long career in the world of journalism and corporate communication.
Cerdán, right arm of former Prime Minister Adán Martín, who died in 2010, has a degree in Information Sciences from the University of Navarra and a master’s degree in Strategic Planning from the University of La LagunaBorn in Olite, Navarra, in 1956, he began his professional career specializing in information politics and economic, in the newspapers Jornada and El Día.
After nine years linked to these headlines, he was the press officer of the Cabildo de Tenerife (1987-1992), head of the Cabinet of the Presidency of this corporation (1992-1999), and vice-counselor for Communication of the Government of the Canary Islands (2003-2007), positions he held with Adán Martín as leader of both institutions. Subsequently, in 2007, he held the position of General Director of Canarian Radio Television RTVC (2007). Between 2008 and 2015 he worked as an independent professional and in 2015 he became the first Commissioner for Transparency and Access to Public Information in the Canary Islands, a responsibility that he continues to exercise.
