The courses and training actions given in 2022 by the Council of Tenerife 3,133 people benefited, most of them women. The activities were channeled through the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (Fifede). The objectives, to improve professional training and employability on the Island, as well as, in parallel, respond to the needs detected by Tenerife companies.
Carmen Luz Baso, Island Councilor for Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, highlights the implementation of the wide range of free training, aimed mainly at the unemployed. These courses allowed him to increase the chances of access to the labor market and a quality job. But also employed people and entrepreneurs were trained who were looking to start a business or improve the management and competitiveness of the one they had already established.
The counselor emphasizes the predominantly female presence in the business development and entrepreneurship courses, where 62% of the participants were women, which shows that more and more they see self-employment as a job opportunity.
Neighborhoods for Employment
The project in which more people were trained was Neighborhoods for Employment: Stronger Together. It had the participation of Cáritas Diocesana, the Red Cross, Don Bosco Salesianos Social, the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna and Sinpromi. In total, 2,116 participants received training related mainly to the service sector and in particular to the hotel, tourism and food sales and distribution companies.

62% of the participants in the business development and entrepreneurship courses were women, which shows that they see self-employment as a job opportunity.
On the other hand, Training for Employability made it possible to obtain 35 licenses for vehicles or forklifts and another 69 participants accessed one of the job shuttles offered in the municipalities of Adeje, La Victoria and Garachico.
As for the new niches, they focused on matters such as repair of electrical and electronic equipment, rural tourism, programming and web design, employment guidance or promotion of equality, among others. More than 100 people were beneficiaries.
In addition, 150 women without professional experience participated in the ISOS Project. An initiative for, in addition to training in personal and social skills, they were helped in the active search for employment and to face a job interview. They also did non-working practices in companies for six months.
Regarding entrepreneurs, the Cabildo offered ten courses to 264 people, 163 women. Business creation, entrepreneurial resilience, social economy, business management and marketing, and coaching and emotional intelligence for customer service were some of the courses taught in this block.
Finally, 375 employed people in the commercial sector received support in the Activation Platform. The initiative offered 18 courses to help small and medium businesses to improve their competitiveness and increase sales thanks to the online market.
