Thefts have increased in recent months on Isla Baja

The Isla Baja has registered in the last year a increase in thefts in homes, in commercial establishments and individuals in the middle of the street. In the municipality of El Tanque, it has been increasing in the last three months, confirms the mayoress, Esther Morales.

For this reason, attending to and prioritizing the safety of the residents, he met a few days ago with the sergeant of the command of the Civil Guard and a person in charge of the Local Police to coordinate the presence of the agents and intensify the controls, which began yesterday. “They will be more continuous over time and in more places in the municipality,” said the councilor.

In Buenavista del Norte there has not been a rebound at the end of the year, as almost always happens, since it is a “complex” time in terms of assaults, said its mayor, Antonio González Fortes.

However, he pointed out that, in general terms, 2022 has been a year in which many incidents have been recorded, “well resolved by the State security forces and bodies, and the people have been identified, because they are associated with the consumption of drugs. It has been a constant, a busy year in that sense, but at times”.

González stressed that the main measure that has been adopted to combat this increase in robberies and thefts has been coordination between the Local Police and the Civil Guard. In this regard, he stressed that last year the Government Sub-delegation provided the post with all the troops and, on the part of the City Council, all the Local Police positions were covered.

In the case of Garachico, Local Police sources confirm that petty thefts from groups of tourists have increased and those responsible have been identified, mostly pickpockets, “non-Spanish nationals, organized to commit this type of action and that are difficult to catch, since they usually have the right amount of money to avoid being arrested”. “This is what happens in towns or places where tourists arrive in groups and in buses, they try to be very attentive but it is not easy,” they point out.

without incident

Unlike the rest of the region, in Los Silos there has not been any incident to highlight, but rather specific cases, without further consideration, that have been referred to the Civil Guard for action in this regard.
