The Güímar City Council approved on Tuesday in an extraordinary plenary session the municipal Budget for 2023, which reaches 20,063,327.26 euros, almost three million more than last year, which represents an increase of around 13%. An amount that gives an average cost of 1,000 euros for each güimarero.
The Budget was approved with the votes in favor of the Government group (PSOE and CC) and the votes against of the PP and IU-Sí se puede. The Councilor for Social Services, José Miguel Hernández, defended him during the plenary session due to the sick leave of the still mayor of the Treasury, Beatriz Perdomo, who recently resigned from the Environment area, and who will assume that area is still pending. In the CC-PSOE pact it corresponds to the Socialists, but they would cede the Environment.
In the approved accounts, in this case section 2 of Goods and Services, exceeds chapter 1 of Personnel. Specifically, 10,062.447 euros for 7,969,657. For direct investment only 612,141 euros are allocated. In the Personnel section, the increase in all salaries stands out, including those of the Government body and temporary workers, which total 807,586 euros, with Social Security.
In Goods and Services the future competition for the collection of urban solid waste is already included, which will cost the Consistory 2,437,904 euros per year, plus the 408,000 per year that must be paid for the management of garbage to the Arico Environmental Complex. Also noteworthy is the money allocated to paving streets and roads, with 70,900 euros.
It also emphasizes the Security and Local Police section, with 1,075,915 euros, or Housing and Urbanism, with 2,399,845 euros, when in Social Services and Social Welfare the contribution stands at 1,751,013 euros. For financial administration, 1,034,544 euros are allocated.
Likewise, the items for Culture (1,296.63 euros), Public lighting (1,024,760) and Sports (1,000,569) exceed one million euros, half of that money destined for the maintenance of the municipal swimming pool. In parties and celebrations, Güímar will spend 518,929 euros this year, being 100,000 for the Fiestas de San Pedro and 50,000 for the Bajada de El Socorro, although these amounts are always exceeded, requiring a readjustment of other items or the positive remainder.
Other departments have smaller amounts, but less important, and in this order: Parks and Gardens (513,000 euros), Employment (388,887), Education (329,193), Tourism and Commerce (207,124), Health (143,766) and Agriculture, Fishing and Livestock (116,550 euros).

According to the mayor, Gustavo Pérez, “the Güímar City Council stabilizes the Budget destined to caring for people and increases the amount destined to basic cleaning and gardening services”, adding that “the accounts guarantee last year’s commitment to maintaining and even increase the games for our cultural, sports and social groups”. “To all this -he continues-, we must add the rise in the costs of all services and goods compared to the previous year. An example of this fact is the exponential rise in the electricity bill for all public facilities”.
