The accident recorded at noon yesterday on Avenida Reyes Católicos in Santa Cruz of Tenerife It was provoked by a couple who were fleeing from the Local Police and ran several red lights at the height of Gilberto Cayol street. Agents of the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife have arrested a man and a woman as alleged perpetrators of the incident. Both fled when they saw two motorists from the municipal security force at the confluence of Avenida Islas Canarias with Avenida Venezuela, in Cruz del Señor.
Then, they were persecuted by the agents along Avenida Islas Canarias, Avenida de Bélgica and Reyes Católicos. When they were driving at high speed on this last road, they ran a final red light and collided with two other vehicles.
The local policemen found out that the now defendants lacked the compulsory insurance and the Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV), at least for now.
Those arrested by the professionals of the Local Police are the man DCA, 23 years old, and the woman, NCHS, 22, according to the data that was disclosed. The man was the one who was behind the wheel of a black Seat Ibiza.
The pursuit began after the individual made a prohibited turn near Avenida Venezuela. The motorists of the municipal security force stopped him, but he ignored the instructions.
During the escape, the young man tried to ram one of the Local Police motorists and fled in the opposite direction towards Avenida Islas Canarias. At that moment, the man hit a parked white Toyota Hilux. Then he jumped at least two red lights to Avenida de Belgica. At the end of this, they turned towards Reyes Católicos and invaded the opposite direction, they jumped another traffic light and collided with two other vehicles.
Two people were traveling in one of those cars and six in the other. The occupants of the first car were evacuated to a hospital, while two other citizens of the second went by their own means to the Los Gladiolos health center. The people evacuated were two women, who suffered moderate chest pain, were treated by two ambulance personnel and evacuated in a medicalized resource to the San Juan de Dios Clinic.
After the road accident, both young men resisted the local police officers and tried to beat them. That is to say, that the man is accused of a crime against road safety for reckless driving and attacking an agent of the authority, while he will be sanctioned for lacking the valid ITV and compulsory insurance. And the woman is accused, at least, of attacking an agent of authority.
The investigation of this case was assumed by the Group of Reports of the Local Police.
