On December 5, the Santa Cruz City Council brought to plenary session the approval of the budget for 2023, which exceeds, for the first time, 300 million euros. According to the municipal forecast, if no allegations had been filed, this year’s accounts could have entered into force on January 1. However, the allegations presented by the PSOE prevented this step, which is now expected to take place on the 18th, after yesterday, in an extraordinary plenary session, the final approval of the accounts was carried out.
“Now we will send it to the bulletin so that it is published urgently and we hope that on January 18 we will already have the items included in the budget,” said the mayor of the Treasury, Juan José Martínez, at the end of the plenary session.
The plenary session passed between the reproaches of the Government team against the opposition for “deliberately” delaying the entry into force of the accounts, and its response pointing out the “democratic deficit” of the Government team regarding the rights of the parties of the opposition
And it is that the PSOE presented two allegations, one referring to the lack of consignment of the interest of the loan of 30 million that is going to be requested, and another on the absence of credit to provide the presidency of the Suggestions and Claims Commission, which still not established.
The mayor of the Treasury responded to the first that the interest is paid in 2024, so it will be in that budget that they are collected, and with respect to the commission, that there is enough credit to endow the presidency if necessary.

From the PSOE, the former socialist mayor, Patricia Hernández, defended that the law obliges to collect interest for each investment project, while, with regard to the Commission, “they have a problem with democracy, when they do not like the proposals , the answer is not to propose to anyone, despite the fact that the first year they came every day for us to configure it”.
Hernández criticized the fact that a statement was sent from the City Council charging against the opposition and accusing it of delaying the accounts. “If they want to send a statement, they do it from their private journalists, but not through official media,” defending that if the budget was approved late it is because the government team brought it to plenary session late.
From Unidas Podemos, Ramón Trujillo pointed out that no effort has been made to set up a commission like the Suggestions and Complaints commission and recalled that the only novelty is the three million euros from the Rodin Museum that are released for other things “something that we congratulate ourselves”. Precisely Martínez advanced that precisely the change of destination of that money that had been budgeted for Rodin, will be the first budget modification of the year.
For the Cs spokesperson, Matilde Zambudio, the 2023 accounts deserve a “suspense,” because, in her opinion, “they do not reflect any of the needs of this municipality.”
