The construction of the Cuesta de la Villa roundabout (Tenerife) will allow, according to the Cabildo, to improve traffic at the intersection of the TF-217 with the access of the TF-5. It is a roundabout that seeks to alleviate the problems of continuous queues. The budget for this work reaches 597,219 euros, of which the Cabildo de Tenerife will contribute 75% and the rest will be provided by the Santa Úrsula City Council. The works will begin on January 17 and will have an execution period of 5 months.
The first vice-president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and island councilor for the Highways area, Enrique Arriaga, met this Thursday with the mayor of the Santa Úrsula City Council, Juan Manuel Acosta, to discuss the construction of this roundabout. The insular Director of Roads, Tomás García Félix, as well as the first deputy mayor of the municipality, Santiago Pérez Ramos, and residents of Cuesta de la Villa were present at the meeting.
Enrique Arriaga stressed “that from the Cabildo we have sought a way to solve the traffic jams that occur in this area” and stated that “with this roundabout we will gain fluidity on the TF-217 by facilitating the intersection of the crossing and we will reduce the risk of accidents”. In addition, the counselor stressed that “every day an average of 3,530 vehicles circulate on this road that have been demanding this improvement for some time, therefore it is necessary to start the actions as soon as possible.”
The counselor explained to the residents that “it is a highly complex work given the unevenness of the terrain that requires lowering so that the roundabout has visibility on all its branches and thus reduces the risk of accidents.”
For the mayor of Santa Úrsula, Juan Acosta, “the Cuesta de la Villa roundabout is undoubtedly one of the works most in demand and expected by the residents of this town, who have been suffering for years from the traffic jams that daily, and at any time , are produced in this area. At this point is one of the main accesses to Santa Úrsula from the TF-5 motorway and from the neighboring municipality of La Orotava, so this long-awaited infrastructure is not only necessary to reorganize and expedite traffic, ending the problem of traffic jams, but will allow greater safety for drivers who must cross this intersection so saturated by the influx of vehicles on a daily basis”.
The insular director of Highways, Tomás Félix García, explained that the objective is to build a circular roundabout of approximately 30 meters in external diameter that has three branches that allow improving the circulation of the residents of the area and, above all, saves them the time that they currently lose due to withholdings“. During the meeting, the doubts that some residents expressed were resolved, details were given of how the works would be carried out and how the process would be carried out to minimize the inconvenience and impact on residents and businesses in the area.
