Adeje could become the capital of cinema if a project that plans to build some large studios in the Fañabé industrial estate prospers to attract major audiovisual productions from around the world. The KISS Media group promotes the development in the southern municipality of the Imagine Green Studios (IGS) project, in which they have been working for three years and which is currently in the phase of study and technical examination for its approval in the different services of the Cabildo de Tenerife. There is at least a year of technical work left and the project would be operational from 2025.

Thus, response is given to the unanimous demand of Canarian society, economic and social agents as well as its institutions and political forces –in countless pronouncements from 2009 to this part– in the shared objective of solving the lack of infrastructure so that film productions can be made from start to finish in our Islands and, in addition, contributing significantly to diversifying the economic model of the Archipelago with the promotion of cinematographic activity.

The design of the studies has been prepared by a company in the United States.

The project will comply with the standards of environmental integration in the environment and sustainability, supplying energy to 100% of renewable energy sources. IGS will generate 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, thus supported by studies carried out by the PWC audit firm. The design of the studios has been developed by the American company Stone Creek, based in Los Angeles (United States), one of the world’s largest designers of film studios that comply with environmental and quality standards.

Assessment of the Council

The Cabildo de Tenerife is aware of this proposal in full development phase. It clarifies that in the event that it complies with the required terms and has all the legal guarantees, it will be taken to the plenary for its declaration as a project of island interest. The insular president, Pedro Martín, assures that “it is a project that has been working on for the last two years.” «There is no doubt that the audiovisual sector can offer, and in fact already offers, an alternative for the generation of employment and economic activity other than tourism in Tenerife, so having facilities of these characteristics on the island would be very interesting. », underlines the leader of the Tenerife socialists.

The IGS project has an educational and professional training campus to train future local and international professionals, as well as for technical experts to expand their knowledge. The training aspect will be supported and coordinated with local educational institutions. IGS will generate local employment with high added value.

The studies will be a cluster –concentration of companies– where to accommodate companies with an offer of comprehensive audiovisual production, post-production and training services. IGS will have film production and training as exclusive activities at its facilities. The intention of the promoters of the project is to locate IGS in the municipality of Adeje, specifically in the Fañabé industrial estate, using 100% of its space for audiovisual production and training centers.

The insular president assures that the Cabildo has been working on this proposal for two years

The Fañabé industrial estate, an industrial area next to the South highway (TF-1) In its upper margin, it describes an unprotected and anthropized space on which environmental studies have been carried out, without any values in fauna or flora having been identified. At present, the steps required for its management are being followed and the required environmental impact studies are continuing.

From beginning to end

The development of this audiovisual hub –node– will allow large productions to be fully carried out on the Island, from start to finish, covering the entire shooting and post-production process, thus completing the natural attractions with the IGS technical and human resources platform that demanded by the majors –the world’s leading production companies– in the audiovisual sector, knowledgeable about Imagine Green Studios.
