Relief around the Iders building in Puerto de la Cruz

The communities of owners, neighbours, hoteliers and businessmen in the surroundings of the iders buildingin Cross porthave shown their relief at the success of the measures adopted in recent months by the Town Hall of the tourist city. After demonstrating at the end of June 2022 To demand the end of 31 years of a real nightmare, the City Council intervened, completed the eviction of the squatters in July, correctly blocked off all the accesses to the property and continued with the complicated procedures of notifying the owners of the declaration of imminent ruin. . Almost seven months after that protest, those affected recognize that calm has returned to this stretch of Familia Betancourt and Molina avenue.

The spokesperson for the residents and businesses affected by the abandonment of Iders, edward louisunderlines the satisfaction generated by the recent news that the Iders demolition project will have to be submitted within two monthsso that for the first time in more than three decades “a final solution regarding the Iders is finally in sight.”

“For 32 years, this issue has become a pure ordeal due to the negative consequences, known to all, and which the owners of the property themselves have suffered firsthand and, in a subsidiary manner, the residents of the area. For about two years, we have maintained

held several meetings with the Town Planning councillor, David Hernandez (ACP)and the mayor Marco González (PSOE)in which there was always a good predisposition and proposals for solutions”, acknowledges Eduardo Luis.

The protest concentration for the situation of the Iders, in June 2022 Carsten W. Lauritsen

Regarding the demonstration at the end of June 2022, Luis recalls that “that day the mayor appeared and promised that a solution to the problem would soon be found. As a result of this, the fruits of municipal efforts began to be seen: the first thing was the eviction of the squatters and then the walling up of the access area to the building. With these works they have been avoided for months fights, drug addiction, fires, shouting, annoyances and unhealthy situations which frequently occurred in and around the Iders building.

«David Hernandez recently reported that the demolition project for the Iders building should be ready in two months. With this news, we finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. For this reason and, on behalf of all the residents of the Martianez area, we thank the Municipal Corporation for their work and, above all, the mayor and the councilor, as we know their work and commitment have been hard”, concludes Luis. Those affected hope that the town hall “continue working with the same enthusiasm and predisposition to put an end to this ordeal permanently».

The decree declaring imminent ruin has already been notified to the hundred owners of this property, who now have two months to present a demolition project. Hernández recently recognized the difficulties they have encountered in contacting the around 117 building ownersof which 94 are individuals, 7 are communities of heirs and another 16 are companies.

The owners have the obligation to submit a demolition project, the cost of drafting which is estimated at about 200,000 euros. If they do not do so, starting next April, the Porto City Council will be able to take the reins of the process and order the demolition of the Iders. 2023 will be a key year, since for the first time a definitive and satisfactory solution for all parties is glimpsed, although it will force the property to make a significant financial outlay. Between 6,800 and 10,700 euros for each of the 117 owners just for the demolition, to which must be added around 55,500 euros per owner for the reconstruction. An average cost of between 62,000 and 66,000 euros will be required by each owner to be able to demolish and rebuild the Iders.

9,800 tons of debris

The decree declaring the imminent ruin of Iders, signed on June 7, puts the demolition cost of this property at least 800,000 euros, which will generate some 9,800 tons of rubble. The municipal technicians detail that demolishing the building and removing this large amount of waste could reach a cost of 1,254,537 euros, according to Cype Ingenieros, although they lower it to 798,396 euros, in a calculation prepared “with 2021 prices.” Reconstructing the Iders would cost around 6.5 million euros, but the owners have the advantage that they will be able to rebuild it immediately with the same dimensions, volume and use without having to wait for the approval of the second Modernization Plan and Gets better.
