The wise men they returned yesterday to The lagoon in a day full of illusion that recovered all its traditional events for this day and, especially, the parade through the streets of the town, after not having been able to take place in the last two years, which brought together around 25,000 people and passed without incidents, according to the City Council.

The day began with the arrival of Their Majesties of the East at the Plaza del Adelantado, where they were received by the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the members of the City Council, to the excitement of hundreds of boys and girls who were waiting for them and who could also see the camels up close, which rested in a space set up in said square.

The mayor welcomed Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, thanking them for “the affection they have always shown for La Laguna, the illusion and joy that they bring to all the families in our city and the thousands of toys that they are going to distribute to all the homes ”.

wishes for peace

The Three Wise Men later visited the Plenary Hall of the local Town Hall to sign the city’s Golden Book and receive the boys and girls, who were able to deliver their letters and formulate their requests for the most magical night of the year. Melchor expressed, on behalf of the three monarchs, his wishes for peace for the world, and he was very excited to be back in La Laguna and relive the parade, after two years without being able to celebrate it due to the restrictions of the pandemic.

At 4:00 p.m., the Three Wise Men rode a camel along with their entourage to the royal sanctuary of Christ, where around 5:00 p.m. the traditional act of adoration of the Three Wise Men to the Child Jesus of the Afflicted took place. At 6:00 p.m. the traditional procession started along the usual route and included an area without noise, in a section of Nava y Grimón street, so that people with autism could enjoy the parade normally.

More than 150 people and 30 vehicles were part of the parade, led by the three floats that carried Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar and which raised the biggest ovations among the children and adults who gathered during the journey.

But the parade also had the animation of fanfares, batucadas and bands of bugles and drums, characters from the world of children’s stories and movies and superheroes. In addition, the City Council recovered, after several years, the participation of the Post Office staff, in charge of collecting and delivering the letters, who participated together with volunteer firefighters and the Local Police.

The parade started from Plaza del Cristo towards Nava and Grimón streets, passing through Plaza del Adelantado and Calle Consistorio, to go up Herradores to Calle Tizón and Obispo Rey Redondo again to Plaza del Adelantado, to return via Nava and Grimón to the Plaza del Cristo, where they expected to arrive around 8:30 p.m.
