The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera celebrates this Saturday the presentation of the official flag of the municipality and will carry out the first hoisting of the same at 7:00 p.m. in the Portico of the Consistory of the capital of the Colombian island.
The local administration has also indicated that the event will also serve as a symbolic tribute to the Canarian musician Juan Abilio Alonso Fariña, who in life was the composer and director of the ‘Marcha de San Sebastián’, who is also in the process of becoming the official municipal anthem
In a statement, the mayor, Adasat Reyes Herrera, has invited the residents to take part in this event with which a new symbol is incorporated into the historical heritage, “a new element that comes to reaffirm the identity and sense of community of the inhabitants of this municipality of La Gomera”.
For its part, the adoption of this municipal flag was brought to the plenary session of the City Council on February 28, initially approving the respective file, which was exposed to the public for 20 business days in which no claims or suggestions were made.
In this way, the Heraldic Commission of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, in a session held on July 21, 2022, adopted the agreement to report favorably on the file for approval of the flag.
