Canary Islands has just said goodbye to the warmest December since 1961, as reported by the regional delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in social networks.
The month of December 2022 was “extremely warm”, with an anomaly of 1.7 degrees Celsius above the average of the reference period from 1981 to 2000.
Regarding rainfall, it was a dry month, with an accumulation of 48 millimeters on average, which is equivalent to 75% of the expected average rainfall.
Of course, the Aemet emphasizes that the rainfall presented “a marked difference” between the two provinces: in that of the palms there was a total precipitation of 20.4 millimeters, which supposes a dry character, and in that of holy cross of Tenerife81.7 millimeters, equivalent to a normal character.
The current hydrological year, which began on October 1, 2022, is currently very dry, with an accumulated precipitation of 61.4 millimeters, which corresponds to 44% of the expected value.
In the Las Palmas province the total precipitation is 30.5 millimeters, the seventh worst value since 1961, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 98.5 millimeters, the eleventh driest in the historical series.
