Güímar launched “the largest agreement of job of the history of the municipality. This is the Social Employment Plan through which 55 unemployed people have just joined “to work in different tasks that will improve the resources available to this town.” With one year in force, the cost of this initiative amounts to 680,736 euros, of which the City Council contributes 395,286 euros, says the Güimarero mayor, Gustavo Pérez.
The councilor explains that these personnel are distributed through different areas of local management and carry out maintenance and improvement tasks for equipment and infrastructure, linked to the daily activity recorded by the municipality. «In Güímar there is a substantial change in terms of the availability of human resources. We are convinced that the city will improve thanks to the efforts of all these people », he adds.
There are two aspects that the mayor highlights because he understands that they are essential in periods of crisis like the current one. Gustavo Pérez assures that, on the one hand, “in this mandate, Güímar has not lost a single employment plan of all those that have been called”; on the other, “and for the first time, the circumstances have arisen to ensure that various agreements and employment plans coincide.” The consequence of this coexistence is that 145 unemployed find work and develop it at the same time, which “will give us a greater margin to solve the problems of the municipality.”
These “achievements” are achieved thanks to various circumstances and variables. In addition to the fact that it is “a fact that occurs thanks to the readjustments that have been applied by all the management areas of the Consistory to prioritize employment”Pérez highlights that for this it is necessary to “plan correctly” employment plans, “have an active municipality supporting trade and SMEs”, which make up 92% of the business fabric of Güímar, “a firm commitment to agriculture as a generator of real employment” and, in this case, it is a sudden matter, “to have one of the best logistics parks in Canary Islands». All this contributes to the fact that “Güímar has gone from having more than 3,000 unemployed in a few years to having 1995 today.”
Support for SMEs
The Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) is the body that selects the beneficiary personnel of this type of agreement, “always based on the profile demanded by the local Administration,” the mayor points out.
Gustavo Pérez defends the results of the politics of employment developed during the mandate. A line that includes support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), highlighting trade and the primary sector. The purpose is “to consolidate jobs and generate employment.”
The mayor of Güímar emphasizes the role played by SMEs «as true generators of work. We must continue creating and supporting those who with their efforts maintain and create companies.
