La Orotava has lived another year in style on the sweetest day on the eve of the visit of Their Majesties the Magi from the East. The Roscon de Reyes giant and supportive, in its eleventh edition, has exceeded the measures of other years. In the beginning there were about 100 meters that were exceeded every year, until the maximum extension in the year 2020, before the global pandemic, which reached 310 meters.
On this occasion, in which it is celebrated again with complete normality, the record has been broken and 570 meters have been reached, making it the largest roscón de reyes in the Canary Islands, and one of the largest in Spain.
The great sweet has been made up of about 700 pieces and has weighed approximately 1,700 kilos. In just two and a half hours in the afternoon of this January 4, some 5,600 portions of the roscón and nearly 500 liters of chocolate were distributed.
In some portions you could find surprises and gifts, donated by shops of the orotava. Throughout the afternoon there was also entertainment around this commercial area on Avenida Emilio Luque in front of the La Milagrosa school, and various musical performances.
The Manobuena pastry shop was in charge of the 1,200 kilos of pastry cream for this great sweet. While the Jovita bakery made the dough using more than 300 kilos of flour; 20 kilos of fresh yeast; 15 liters of white and 5 liters of yolk; 15 liters of orange juice; more than 150 kilos of candied and candied fruit, 50 kilos of orange, and other ingredients such as margarine, cinnamon, sugar, vanilla, rum, water, milk, and lemon, among others.
The mayor, Francisco Linares, and the mayor of commerce, Felipe David Benítez, participated throughout the day, which was attended by a large audience as in each edition. The event is in solidarity with the social work of the Red Cross, for which the attendees contributed their donation upon receiving the portion and glass of chocolate. This act has become a benchmark for Christmas in the North of Tenerife and on the island.
The municipal representatives appreciate the work of the participating companies and all the volunteers involved in the event; and they also congratulate everyone for breaking records this year, especially because it can also be celebrated again as normal after these years affected by the health situation caused by the global pandemic.
This initiative is organized by the Local Economic Development area and aims, in addition to offering another attraction to residents and visitors, to boost commercial activity in the Villa.
