The PSOE of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has rejected the insults and derogatory words expressed by members of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC) in the media and social networks since the announcement of the paralysis of the “museum of copies of Rodin”.
Chronology of a fiasco: goodbye to the museum of Rodin replicas in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The party explains that “the suspension of this franchise museum, whose cost amounted to 16 million euros, does not justify that political officials elected to represent all citizens, such as José Manuel Bermúdez, personally disqualify with labels such as Closed mentality, legs or belly button to the more than 3,000 professionals who have signed different manifestos and open letters against the project”.
For José Ángel Martín, spokesman for the PSOE in the Santa Cruz City Council, it is “one more example of the sectarian forms of Bermúdez and of how CC representatives conceive of democracy and the exercise of power.” Martín points out that “if Bermúdez has a problem with the Faculty of Fine Arts of La Laguna, the Institute of Contemporary Art of the Canary Islands, with artists like Concha Jerez and Antoni Miralda, the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, Elvira Dyangani, the head of exhibitions at the Reina Sofía Museum, Teresa Velázquez, the director of the Es Baluard museum, Imma Prieto or the professor of museology Jesús Pedro Lorente, among many other signatories, perhaps it would be better for the city to listen to their criticism instead of insulting them” .
The socialist councilor has asked Bermúdez to “rectify” not only the insults towards the cultural sector, but also the assessment of the “museum of copies of Rodin”.
“Bermúdez has said in several interviews that, despite not being an art expert, he does not understand criticizing a museum of copies. Maybe he should listen to the art experts. What was serious here was the high payment for replicas, but a more in-depth analysis, such as the one carried out by the cultural sector, on the figure of Rodin, the economic situation of the original Rodin Museum and the feasibility report would not justify the project either”, says Martín .
