SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife will collaborate with the town councils of less than 50,000 inhabitants on the Island in different actions to improve accessibility to historic complexes, promote car park projects to relieve traffic congestion and promote their conservation, among other interventions.

This is included in the Insular Program for the Improvement of Accessibility to Historic Sites (PIMACH), approved by the Governing Council, which will be valid from 2022 to 2026.

The insular president, Pedro Martín, pointed out that for these four years of validity of the program an investment of 18,109,217 euros is expected, of which the Cabildo will finance 10,931,922 euros, for a program that “will be of great help to the municipalities that have presented their projects to us, a total of eight, to improve access and protection of their historic centers,” he said.

Pedro Martín explained that this insular program is a new way that the Cabildo has articulated to collaborate with the municipalities, in this case for those with less than 50,000 inhabitants, which have among their provisions the protection of their historic quarters linked to the improvement of the accesses, the creation of open commercial areas and the promotion of pedestrian use.

Martín explained that the investments have already begun, with a first batch in 2022, which rose to 1,177,707 euros, to be followed by this year’s, which rises to 2.4 million euros. For the 2024-2026 period, an annual investment of 4.8 million euros is planned.

The projects that are going to be financed under this program are the following: car park on Claveles street in Buenavista del Norte (948,327 euros); El Cubo interchange in San Juan de la Rambla (1,693,182 euros); underground parking in the Plaza de la Constitución in Puerto de la Cruz (7,580,925 euros); car parks in the historic center of Tegueste (775,592 euros); parking in the extension of Juez Jorge García street in Tacoronte (2,629,640 euros); parking in the old football field of Garachico (2,000,000 euros); new surface parking on the general South road, in San Miguel de Abona (231,452 euros); improvement of accessibility in the historic quarter of Guía de Isora (2,250,098 euros).

The Councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, pointed out that this insular program has, among its main objectives, to protect the historical ensembles from the deterioration they experience as a result of motor vehicle transit through them. “Through this program we will contribute to municipalities in the financing of parking projects, underground, surface, or both actions combined, to reduce road traffic and promote foot traffic for the population, among other interventions,” he added.

In addition, he emphasized “the importance of these actions as they are points of tourist interest, which will improve the image in the face of the visiting population and will also contribute to boosting the local economy, by facilitating access to comfortably visit these historical complexes and your business environment. He also recalled that the aim is to protect the environment, reduce environmental, acoustic and vibration pollution.

Chinea highlighted, in this sense, the joint work carried out through the Municipal Cooperation area with the insular direction of Territorial Planning and Heritage of the Cabildo to collect the proposals for improvement of the town halls in which to be able to collaborate from the insular Corporation.

The Cabildo will fully cover the execution of the projects whose budget does not exceed 400,000 euros, while those that exceed this amount will be financed according to the distribution of the insular Municipal Cooperation plans, the insular contribution ranging between 90% and 80%. , according to the number of inhabitants of the municipalities. In any case, a limit to the insular contribution of 2,000,000 euros has been established, the counselor explained.
