On January 4th it will take place at the Villa of La Orotava one of the sweetest and most anticipated events in these Christmas holidays. On the eve of the visit and great parade of their Majesties the Magi, the Roscón de Reyes traditional of the municipality.
In this eleventh edition, which will be held as normal after the global pandemic, it is expected to break a record as the goal is to reach 500 meters. In previous editions, the greatest measure has been 310 meters in 2020.
The roscón will be located as in previous years on Avenida Emilio Luque, in the La Milagrosa school area, and the portions will be distributed in exchange for a donation, since the event, as always, is also supportive and what is collected It will go to the social work of the Red Cross for the most needy families in the municipality. Some 450 liters of chocolate will also be distributed.
The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. and will last until 8:00-9:00 p.m., or while stocks last, so maximum collaboration is requested from those who attend it for the proper development of the event. In the portions you can find surprises and gifts, donated by shops in La Orotava. Participants who benefit from these gifts must go through the indicated store to pick it up. There will also be entertainment around this shopping area, DJ and musical performances.
The great sweet will be pastry cream. The Manobuena pastry shop is one more year, and they are already 11, responsible for making about 1,000 kilos of the filling cream. While the dough will be made this year, for the second time, at the facilities of the Jovita Bakery. About 240 kilos of flour are used in the dough; 18 kilos of fresh yeast; 14 liters of white and 5 liters of yolk; 10 liters of orange juice; more than 150 kilos of candied and candied fruit, 50 kilos of orange, and other ingredients such as margarine, cinnamon, sugar, vanilla and lemon, among other things.
This act has become a benchmark for Christmas in the north of Tenerife, and on the island, since it can be said that it is the largest roscón de reyes in the Canary Islands and possibly the largest in Spain.
This initiative is organized by the Local Economic Development area and aims, in addition to offering an additional attraction to residents and visitors, to boost commercial activity.
From the City Council a special thanks goes to the group of Red Cross volunteers who will be collaborating during the organization of this event. The involvement of the participating companies Manobuena and Panadería Jovita is also appreciated.
