The Cabildo de Tenerife has awarded the Tegueste City Council a subsidy worth 217,489 euros for the conditioning works of the El Caidero road, located in the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve.
The rural road El Caidero is considered an area of great interest, both agricultural, tourist and cultural, given that important processes are developed and coexist with traditional and agricultural activities, and it is part of different trail routes in the island, giving access to what is known as La Orilla path.
The Councilor for Natural Environment Management and Security of the Cabildo, Isabel García, has indicated in a note that the “Action Plan of the Macizo de Amaga Biosphere Reserve, which is valid until 2026, includes the lines of action for improving accessibility to farms, taking into account the rehabilitation and conditioning of roads in poor condition”.
It is for this reason, he indicates, “that we have taken into consideration this indication of the plan to carry out some actions such as the opening of the agricultural track of El Batán de Arriba (La Laguna), the execution of the paving project of the rural road El Río y Cabeza de Toro (La Laguna) and also the adaptation of the Camino del Tomadero (Phase I, Section B) in the municipality of Santa Cruz”.
For her part, the mayoress of Tegueste, Ana Rosa Mena, points out the importance of maintaining coordination between administrations to achieve the optimal state of this type of tracks, which are located in an environment as emblematic as the Anaga Biosphere Reserve.
“We must take care of our natural spaces, which make up the legacy of our land and, in turn, a very important tourist attraction,” he adds.
The project encompasses the necessary actions for the conditioning and improvement of the road and includes the adaptation of the pavement by means of surface rehabilitation, providing a greater passage width both for road traffic in the area and for pedestrians, and the execution of punctual containments in the left margin (ascending direction).
The replacement of the existing elements of rainwater collection and evacuation to the channel is also proposed, due to the state of deterioration in which they are found.
This subsidy is included in the Strategic Subsidy Plan of the Cabildo de Tenerife for 2022, approved at the session of the Island Government Council held on February 15, 2022.
