Neighbors of the Golete neighborhood filed a formal complaint with the institution of the Common Council in which they accused the Güímar City Council of initiating, without informing beforehand, a public workto “that can affect the health” of the population. They demand dialogue with the Consistory and access to the file to verify that environmental legislation “and the right to health of the people who live there” are not violated.
The municipal government announced a week ago the start of the construction of the treatment plant and the pumping station “with an investment of around 600,000 euros”, according to what the first deputy mayor, Airam Puerta, announced. He himself maintains that he held a meeting with about twenty neighbors who were informed of the need to prevent more illegal dumping into the sea, a matter for which a criminal case has been open since 2018. Likewise, he assures, they were informed that the location of this infrastructure is the only possible one because it complies with all the conditions established by the regulations for its location.
The common deputy met yesterday with the president of the Vigía Association of Public and Private Rights, Pedro Pérez, and with the neighbors Irene Corona and Víctor Manuel Sepúlveda. “We are in an extreme situation. Some want to install this treatment plant on the foundations of their homes without there being a technical certification that ensures that these houses will not suffer damage to their structure, “they lament. They also stress that “they are unaware of the technical report that supports the location of the treatment plant.”
Airam Puerta defends that an environmental problem is solved and explains that it will be in operation until the waters are channeled, in compliance with the Insular Hydrological Plan of Tenerifeto a regional treatment plant that centralizes and optimizes resources and, incidentally, can offer water that can be reused for irrigation.
