The Santa Cruz City Council, through the councilor delegate for Transport, Dámaso Arteaga, shows that “this afternoon’s protest, which has had the participation of just over a hundred units associated with Elite Taxi, lacks of reasoned justification, firstly because this government team has always sided with the professionals in their demands, even before other administrations” and Arteaga adds that “in addition to having maintained exquisite respect for all the agreements reached at the Taxi Board ”.
“Despite the demonstration – Arteaga values -, the important thing is that adequate attention has been paid to the public from 6 to 8 in the afternoon today, precisely with a service that has not been altered by the taxi demonstration, precisely because it has been limited to Tres de Mayo avenue and some surrounding streets” and, therefore, he estimates that “the majority of the sector has not supported the protest, so we understand that the majority position is in favor of the need to continue negotiation without harming the citizen”.
“It is necessary to value -says the councilor- that the Department of Transportation has tried to negotiate until the last moment with the intention of calling off the demonstration, although the organizing group has not given the slightest option for it.”
The City Council confirms before the sector its permanent willingness to continue working in the Taxi Board to make the group more competitive and call, as soon as possible, the rescue for the coming years, together with the Island Council, and reduce the 150 licenses as first target.
“Precisely today -Dámaso Arteaga advances- the granting of the subsidy for security measures has been signed, which benefits more than 150 taxi drivers and who will see various amounts received, between 120 and 298 euros, over the next month” and ends “Giving the sector certainty that we are moved by the benefit of the competitiveness of the taxi, convinced that only dialogue and constructive proposals will allow us to have a sector with economic profitability and willing to provide a quality public service to citizens, that we are convinced that this is what should motivate us all”.
