The mayor of Santa Cruz, Jose Manuel Bermudezdefended yesterday the arrival of the rodin museum to the capital, pointing out that all the criticism that the French sculptor’s spending of 16 million on works is receiving is due to the fact that “we have elections in May.” “I am convinced that the project is contaminated by the elections.”

Bermúdez thus responded to the media that asked about the critics of the opposition to the project, saying that “they are opinions that are not very contrasted and biased.” “It is a project that we believe -she continued- that is good for the capital and I cannot agree that opening a museum in the city is something bad for culture. For me that is not an admissible approach ”.

Regarding Rodin’s lack of relationship with the city, the mayor pointed out that “Henry Moore or Miró did not have it either until they participated in the International Sculpture Exhibition, I think what must be considered is the value of the artists.” He defended that part of the Viera y Clavijo will be dedicated to the Interpretation Center of this International Exhibition, “for which we are going to continue acquiring sculptures.”

Bermúdez questioned whether it is the entire “world of culture” that opposes the project. “Certain people have spoken, and others have not spoken,” he concluded.
