SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife will invest more than 250,000 euros in two new actions to continue improving the facilities of the animal protection center of Tierra Blanca (Fasnia) and the quality of life of the dogs housed.
Specifically, the island corporation will allocate 178,122 euros to changing the roof of ship 1 of the shelter, in which the presence of asbestos was detected, and 73,077 euros to the construction of three exercise and walking patios, so that the dogs can exercise and socialize, fundamental issues to improve their health.
The insular Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, states in a note that the objective is for Tierra Blanca to be more than a refuge or a place of reception.
“We want it to be consolidated as an animal welfare space, where dogs can play, interact and exercise, but also receive the care and health care they need while waiting for them to be adopted,” he says.
In this sense, the island manager recalls that recently the garden areas of the hostel have been conditioned and new veterinary units and facilities for farm staff, volunteers and visitors have been put into operation.
In 2021, the construction of a new warehouse worth almost 450,000 euros was also completed, “and we have begun to carry out training and awareness actions on the abandonment of animals with groups of schoolchildren at the Tierra Blanca facilities,” Parrilla abounds. .
The counselor emphasizes that this shelter “had not received adequate investments since 2013 to guarantee the quality of life and well-being of the animals” and for this reason, from the beginning of the mandate, actions began to be implemented, “to multiply the investments and promote a new way of understanding animal care and protection policies”.
To complete the housing space, the Cabildo has projected the construction of three exercise and walking patios, equipped with shading structures, so that dogs can exercise and socialize.
“All these actions and the new ones that we are going to implement have been consolidating and transforming the shelter, in order to provide the animals that come to this space with the greatest possible comfort and quality of life, because they deserve no less”, reminds the counselor.
