SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The CC-PNC group of the Cabildo de Tenerife has proposed the granting of the 2023 Canary Islands Awards to the Atelsam Mental Health Association, José Manuel Pitti González and the Canary Islands Entities Abroad in the modalities of Altruistic and Solidarity Actions, Communication and International , respectively.

Atelsam began its work in 1993 with the aim of defending and promoting the rights of people with mental health problems and their families. Its fundamental purposes are to promote and contribute to the improvement of prevention, treatment and social reintegration and labor integration of people with mental health problems.

For his part, José Manuel Pitti is a history of sports information and journalism in the Canary Islands with a long career backed by an intense informative experience. He has covered international events such as the Olympic Games and the World and European Basketball Championships and has developed commendable work in different media. In 1985 he launched the program La Luchada on TVE and, since then, he has become a strong defender of vernacular sports.

The Canary Islands Entities Abroad are non-profit associations, societies and entities of a cultural or recreational nature constituted by Canarian residents abroad or those whose statutes have as their primary objective the maintenance of social and cultural ties with the Canarian people, their history , their culture and their dissemination in their field of action.

Since the year 2000, the Canary Islands Entities Abroad manage shelter houses in Venezuela and also develop their extraordinary activity in Cuba, Argentina and Uruguay, among other parts of the world. Thus, they form a vital part of the social fabric of Canarian people or descendants who live outside our islands.

ATELSAM MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION.

The Atelsam Mental Health Association is a non-profit entity with scope of action in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands that was established in June 1993. It was declared of Public Utility in December 2001 and of Public Interest by the Government of the Canary Islands in May of 2021.

The Atelsam Mental Health Association is made up of relatives and people with mental health problems, and friends who are aware of their problems. Its fundamental purposes are to promote and contribute to the improvement of prevention, treatment and social reintegration and labor integration of people with mental health problems. Attention to this group is carried out through a community support network, facilitating cooperation between the administration, professionals, families and users.

It is a non-profit association, committed to defending and promoting the rights of people with mental health problems and their families. It provides accompaniment and advice in the recovery process, promoting integration into the community and improving their quality of life. For this, it has resources for accommodation, day care and home care, and specific programs for rehabilitation and social and labor inclusion.

Atelsam is a benchmark in the field of mental health, as well as valid interlocutors before society and institutions. The entity defends values such as respect, honesty, transparency, innovation and excellence and carries out commendable work in Tenerife and Canary Islands society.

JOSE MANUEL PITTI GONZALEZ.

José Manuel Pitti González is a history of sports information and journalism in the Canary Islands with a long career backed by an intense informative experience. Born in San Miguel de Abona (Tenerife) in 1959, he published his first journalistic work at just 16 years old in the newspaper La Tarde. From there he began an extensive career that at first led him to work on Radio Juventud de Canarias, Marca, Nuevo Basket, Jornada Deportiva and Diario de Avisos, among other media.

In 1979 he joined the team of Radio Nacional de España, from where he made the leap to TVE-C in 1981, after passing through the newspaper El Día. In 1984, after winning his place in the competition-opposition, he was appointed Chief of Sports of TVE-C, in addition to being responsible for the program ‘Lunes deportivo’.

At Televisión Española in the Canary Islands, he served as head of Sports for 16 years and was a forerunner, presenter and director of the program ‘La Luchada’ since 1985, a task that he later continued on Televisión Canaria. The image of the Canarian wrestling and Pitti are indissolubly associated in our Archipelago, thus becoming a staunch defender of vernacular and traditional sports.

In addition, the Canarian professional has covered international events such as the Olympic Games in Seoul 88 and Barcelona 92 and has been present in different World and European Basketball Championships.

José Manuel Pitti has been director of different local radio stations and has worked as a columnist in various newspapers. He currently runs ChasnaNews, a multimedia communication and advertising agency that also carries out advisory work and produces written, oral and audiovisual content. In the same way, he collaborates in the program ‘Terrero y Gloria’ (TV Canaria) in the section ‘El rincón de Pitti’, where he brings the audience closer to the different protagonists and legends of the Canarian wrestling.

CANARY ENTITIES ABROAD.

The Canary Islands Entities Abroad have always gone far beyond the cultural field, becoming important social instruments to reach those Canaries and their descendants who are going through a situation of extreme need.

The Canary Islands Entities Abroad have become day centers for the elderly with structured programs, places for receiving medicines or food and even for carrying out procedures with our Autonomous Community. They are configured as open-door entities for those people who cannot afford the fee and carry out altruistic and supportive actions such as home visits, social support and medical offices, among others.
