SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Research Unit of the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has welcomed the temporary stay of a pre-doctoral student from the University of Oviedo.
The researcher, who works at the Health Research Institute of the Principality of Asturias (ISPA), in the group of bone metabolism, vascular and chronic inflammatory diseases, co-led by doctors Jorge.B Cannata Andía and Manuel Naves Díaz, carried out her research in the research group on renal and cardiovascular disease (INVERCAV).
This action allows both groups to open new job opportunities that will serve to program and consolidate future cooperative research projects for the benefit of patients with diabetes and kidney disease. They are currently collaborating in the writing of various scientific articles with the aim of a forthcoming publication in specialized journals.
Predoctoral researcher Beatríz Martín Carro explains that she chose Hospital La Candelaria because of the “extensive experience in the field of chronic kidney disease associated with diabetes” of Dr. Juan Francisco Navarro González and Dr. Carmen Mora. In addition, she had the advice of the researcher in charge of the Physiopathology of Mineral Metabolism Group, Javier Donate Correa.
As Martín explains, “diabetes constitutes a major global health problem, not only because of its high and growing prevalence, which has tripled in the last 20 years, but also because of the number of premature deaths it causes.”
